About used BMW headlights & lighting

BMW headlights fall into three families: halogen, Xenon HID (with separate ballast and igniter), and full-LED (integrated diode array, no replaceable bulb). LCI refreshes mid-generation typically bring an updated headlight design — every E-chassis and F-chassis has both pre-LCI and LCI variants that don't cross over without wiring and FRM coding work.

We grade lens clarity in every listing. Grade A means clear with no yellowing; Grade B is light haze that polishing will improve; Grade C is heavy haze. Ballasts are tested in-housing; the AHM module (Adaptive Headlight Module) is checked for active control of the swivel motors.

Xenon retrofit kits and aftermarket LED conversions are a separate world — we don't sell those. Everything here was pulled from a BMW and matches a factory part number you can verify in RealOEM against your VIN.

What's the difference between Xenon, Adaptive, and LED headlights?
Xenon (HID) uses a high-voltage gas-discharge bulb with a separate ballast. Adaptive Xenon adds swivel motors that steer the beam into corners. Full LED housings (F30 LCI+, G20) integrate the diode arrays and have no separate bulb to replace. They're not interchangeable — your wiring, coding, and ballast presence dictate which one fits.
Are the headlight ballasts included with the assembly?
Yes — every Xenon headlight assembly we sell ships with its original BMW ballast (D1S, D3S, or D5S depending on chassis) mounted in the housing, unless explicitly noted otherwise. Ballasts are tested before listing; failures are graded down.
Will lens hazing be a problem on a used headlight?
We grade lens clarity in every listing. Grade A means clear lens, no yellowing or fogging; Grade B means light haze that polishing will improve; Grade C is heavy haze and is priced accordingly. Photos show the actual lens condition under direct light.
What do your condition grades mean?
Grade A — fully functional, light wear consistent with age, sold ready to install. Grade B — functional with cosmetic blemishes or replaced consumables noted in the listing. Grade C — functional core with significant wear; pictured as-is, suited for rebuilds. We test every electronic and powered part before listing.
